1.5″x1.75″. Commodore Thomas Truxtun (1755-1822), an accomplished captain during the American Revolution, was appointed as one of the original six corp captains in Geo. Washington’s new Navy. In 1799, he engaged w/ an enemy ship for the first time since the war; defeating the French frigate, L’Insurgente. The battle scene is beautifully painted here against a cobalt blue body.
